The first issue of Dermatology Times was published in 1979 to offer clinical insights into a growing health care specialty.

This month, Dermatology Times is proud to celebrate its 45th anniversary with you, our cherished readers. The first issue of Dermatology Times was published in 1979 to offer clinical insights into a growing health care specialty. Since then, Dermatology Times has evolved through decades of ground-breaking research, historic drug approvals, and a growing specialty that is dedicated to improving the lives of patients with varying skin conditions.

Our July cover feature explores how Dermatology Times and the specialty of dermatology have evolved in the past 45 years. Inside, you will find an in-depth look at a time line of dermatology milestones, including some of the earliest news of dermatology dating to 460 BC. That is when Hippocrates, often referred to as the father of modern medicine, classified skin diseases and utilized treatments using honey, tar, and fats, based on humoral theory.1

Fast-forward to the era of modern medicine, life-changing drug approvals such as isotretinoin, tretinoin, dupilumab, adalimumab, ruxolitinib, upadacitinib, and others have changed the lives of patients struggling with debilitating skin conditions. Dermatology Times is proud to have served clinicians over the past 45 years by covering breaking news, new research, drug approvals, innovative conferences, and more, and we are honored to witness the next 45 years of dermatology as well.

One aspect that sets Dermatology Times apart is comprehensive conference coverage. In this issue, you will find highlights from the Fall Clinical Dermatology Conference for PAs and NPs held in Scottsdale, Arizona; the Summer Society for Dermatology Physician Assistants Conference held in San Diego, California; and the Revolutionizing Alopecia Areata, Vitiligo, and Eczema Conference held in Chicago, Illinois.

The summer travel season has been packed with conferences geared toward advanced practice providers in dermatology, especially as physician assistants (PAs) and nurse practitioners (NPs) continue to become essential in providing widespread dermatologic care. With Dermatology Times’ commitment to PAs and NPs, we are thrilled to introduce our Summer Editor in Chief, Shanna Miranti, MPAS, PA-C. Shanna is a dermatology physician assistant at Riverchase Dermatology in Naples, Florida.

Dermatology Times provides our readers with the most up-to-date clinical content, from innovative studies and FDA approvals to exclusive interviews and expert insights.
