Medical and aesthetic dermatologists partner at SBS 2025 to bridge gaps between clinical care and cosmetic procedures.
At this year’s meeting, the 2025 South Beach Symposium (SBS) continues to offer an integrative approach to medical and aesthetic dermatology. This annual conference, held in Miami, Florida, provides health care professionals with extensive learning opportunities, hands-on training, and valuable networking experiences.
Suneel Chilukuri, MD, a board-certified dermatologist from Houston, Texas, emphasized the unique comprehensiveness of the event. "SBS, I think, is a pretty remarkable conference. The reason is the one word I described: it is comprehensive," he stated. The symposium encompasses medical, aesthetic, and regenerative dermatology, ensuring that attendees gain knowledge in all aspects of the specialty. The structure of the conference allows for efficiency, offering multiple lectures over a 3-day period. Chilukuri noted that both early-career and experienced professionals benefit from the pearls of wisdom shared throughout the event.
Christopher Bunick, MD, PhD, associate professor of dermatology and translational biomedicine at Yale School of Medicine and medical chair of the SBS curriculum, highlighted the importance of integrating medical and aesthetic dermatology. "One of the major themes that we try to achieve here at South Beach Symposium is the integration of the medical knowledge with the aesthetic knowledge that’s required for dermatologists to treat the entire patient in front of them," he explained. A unique feature of the symposium is the collaboration between medical and procedural dermatologists, as seen in dedicated sessions on acne, vitiligo, and photoprotection.
Another essential component of SBS is its hands-on training. Attendees have the opportunity to gain direct experience with botulinum toxins, dermal fillers, lasers, and other cutting-edge devices under expert guidance. "One of the great and exciting aspects of South Beach Symposium is the hands-on experience that you can get," Bunick stated, highlighting the invaluable nature of these practical sessions in boosting confidence and competency in clinical practice.
Beyond education, SBS serves as a critical networking platform. Bunick described it as "an incredible opportunity for networking. It is a very intimate meeting in the sense of collegiality and interactions that really foster lifelong collaborations and connections within the dermatology specialty." The symposium facilitates professional relationships within academia, industry, and private practice, creating opportunities for career advancement and collaborative innovation.
The South Beach Symposium remains a leading educational and networking event for dermatology professionals. By integrating medical and aesthetic dermatology, offering practical hands-on experience, and fostering professional connections, SBS provides a comprehensive and dynamic learning experience that supports the growth and excellence of dermatologists worldwide.
