Dermatology clinicians have grown to appreciate the importance of mental health, both in their patients and themselves, and especially as it pertains to employment. With that in mind, we are excited to honor World Mental Health Day on October 10, 2024. This year’s theme is “It is Time to Prioritize Mental Health in the Workplace,” with a goal of fostering inclusivity and empowerment as well as addressing stress and burnout.

According to various surveys, approximately one-third of dermatology clinicians have reported symptoms of burnout, including emotional exhaustion and feelings of ineffectiveness. Common causes include overwhelming workload as well as prior authorizations and other bureaucratic demands. Moreover, research has found that clinician burnout can lead to worse outcomes for patients and can impact clinicians via increased substance use, depression, etc.

An important foundation of wellness in the workplace is making sure everyone has the tools and support needed to successfully complete their tasks. And that’s one of our key goals at Dermatology Times. Cover to cover, in every print issue, and online at DermatologyTimes.com, we share best practice tips from your colleagues on issues such as diagnostic challenges and treatment strategies to empower and inform you. In this issue, for instance, you’ll find new data from research on skin cancer, psoriasis, and hyperpigmentation. We also provide highlights from the most recent conferences, as well as the Aiming High in Eczema/Atopic Dermatitis treatment guidelines.

Do you have best practice tips to share with your colleagues? Share them via social media on LinkedIn, Facebook, and X, or write to us at DTEditor@mmhgroup.com. Your tip could be featured in an upcoming issue.
