In this week’s Pointers With Portela, the 208SkinDoc explains why individuals with certain careers have an increased risk of developing skin cancer.
In his most recent YouTube episode, "Dermatologist Explains Jobs That Increase Your Risk of Skin Cancer" Dustin Portela, DO, a board-certified dermatologist and dermatologic surgeon at Treasure Valley Dermatology in Boise, Idaho, explains why certain types of careers may put individuals at an increased risk of developing skin cancer.
During a day at the clinic, Portela encountered a patient who did not know that their job as a pilot would increase their risk of skin cancer. Portela goes on to explain that other careers such as farmers, ranchers, and lifeguards are also at an increased risk.
The September issue of Dermatology Times featured an article by Beth Goldstein, MD, and colleagues that further explored why aircrews face an increased risk of developing skin cancer, and what they can do to protect their skin while working.
