There are numerous ways for dermatologists to get involved in initiatives from the Skin Cancer Foundation, according to Becky Kamowitz.
The Skin Cancer Foundation is intensifying its efforts to partner with dermatologists nationwide to enhance sun protection education and improve skin cancer prevention. Executive Director Becky Kamowitz shared the organization’s evolving approach to collaborating with individual dermatologists and large-scale practices to address both patient and provider needs.
Some of these initiatives include the mobile “Destination Healthy Skin” clinic and the Seal of Recommendation program for sunscreen and other sun protection products. Additionally, Kamowitz highlighted the Foundation’s robust print and digital presence. With 11 million website visitors annually, the organization shares insights into the latest trends in skin health and sun protection, making this data accessible to dermatologists and patients alike.
“All of our digital content can be shared with dermatologists’ audiences, linked in their own newsletters,” Kamowitz said, “Really just trying to make sure that we have appropriate content for all seasons [and] making sure sun protection is a year-round conversation.”
Kamowitz also expressed gratitude for dermatologists’ ongoing support, emphasizing their pivotal role in advancing the Foundation’s mission. Dermatologists not only serve as volunteers, media spokespersons, and content reviewers but also help fund key programs through patient education materials.
“I think the most important thing to know for the Dermatology Times audience is that dermatologists are the heart of everything we do at the Skin Cancer Foundation,” Kamowitz noted.
For clinicians interested in deeper involvement, Kamowitz encourages joining the SCF’s physician membership program, which offers a range of benefits, including visibility on its website, media opportunities, and access to an annual “Champions for Change” gala in New York City.
