Ahead of the annual meeting, Dermatology Times spoke with Draelos about why she looks forward to the meeting each year.
This weekend, the dermatology community kicks off the biggest conference of the year in Orlando, Florida, with the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) annual meeting. Clinicians from around the globe will meet to share pearls, discuss upcoming therapeutics, and review late-breaking data. Among this cohort of attendees and presenters are a number of Dermatology Times Editorial Advisory Board (EAB) members, including Andrew F. Alexis, MD, MPH, FAAD, Pearl Grimes, MD, FAAD, and Editor-in-Chief Christopher G. Bunick, MD, PhD, FAAD.

Joining her fellow EAB members is Zoe Diana Draelos, MD, FAAD, consulting professor at Duke University School of Medicine and founder of Dermatology Consulting Services, PLLC. Draelos will be involved in 3 sessions at the meeting: The Future of Cosmetic Dermatology, Medical and Surgical Management of Nail Disorders, and The Science of Cosmeceuticals and Nutraceuticals.
Ahead of the meeting, Dermatology Times spoke with Draelos who shared her excitement for the conference, its sessions, and its speakers. “It's just a great time to make new friends, meet other dermatologists, see where they are in their practice,” she said. “I think going to the AAD, for me, is very invigorating, very rejuvenating, and it’s just fun to see where everybody’s been for the past year.” She shared that this is also a good opportunity to mentor younger clinicians, as the meeting is quite comprehensive.
Draelos was particularly excited about her presentation on nutraceuticals: “I think that’s always a fun session, because we really drill down to, ‘Where’s the science? Where is anti-aging medicine going? Nutritionally, what do you eat to help?’...it’s such a future session, looking at where are we now and what can we do to be sure that we all have quality skin for an entire lifetime.”
