What to Expect at the Inaugural 2023 Winter Clinical Miami Meeting

The inaugural Winter Clinical Miami meeting, the latest addition to the stable of Fall and Winter Clinical conference offerings, begins February 17, 2023, in sunny Miami, Florida, promising attendees 4 days chock-full of accredited continuing medical education and programming.

The Fall and Winter Clinical Dermatology conferences were founded 20 years ago by Darrel S Rigel, MD, MS, co-director, clinical professor of dermatology at Mount Sinai Icahn School of Medicine; Mark Lebwohl, MD, co-director, professor and chairman of the department of dermatology at the Mount Sinai Icahn School of Medicine; and James Q. Del Rosso, DO, co-director, adjunct clinical professor of dermatology at Touro University College of Osteopathic Medicine. This year, a Miami meeting was added to the lineup to engage the East Coast audience.

Winter Clinical Miami emphasizes case-based presentations with sessions spanning medical dermatology, aesthetics, surgical dermatology, and practice management. Live patient workshops round out the innovative roster.

“Fall Clinical and Winter Clinical are the premier dermatology meetings in the country, there's no question about it. I think over the last 20 odd years, it has evolved to really be the highest level of clinical education No. 1, and of innovation, No. 2, and doing it in a way that allows for the dermatologist or, in certain cases, the mid-level to get the most out of practical applications for their patients. I think that's really the key. Miami is no exception to this, but we've actually taken this a step further. What we're doing, I think, is very innovative, because we're doing it starting with case-based presentations, meaning, let's have an example of a patient coming into your office and how the information that we're going to discuss is going to impact how we treat that patient. This is really how we deal with it on a daily basis. As dermatologists, we see our patients, and then all of the treatments, innovations, diagnostic tools, etc, come to mind, and we use those tools, and we use the information to do the best to treat our patients. “This all started with Darrell Rigel, Mark Lebwohl, and myself, and the first meeting we had was in 2001 in Las Vegas a month after 9/11. That's how I remember, it was 2001…so close to that bad time. But it was a great meeting, and we had the full attendance of people that were intending to come before that event and so it started off in Las Vegas, and then grew into the Winter Clinical [meeting] in Hawaii. Over time, we've added some other meetings for residents and nurse practitioners and physician assistants in dermatology Board Immersion course. And then the idea came up about having a meeting on the East Coast, because a lot of what we were doing was [on the] West Coast. There was an initiative to start it. Also, the administrative people that are involved and the behind-the-scenes leadership of the group has grown exponentially and there are new people that have new ideas, they bring things to the table, and [things] just happen. There's a lot a lot of momentum in our organization.”

“It's an inaugural meeting and it's a new chapter in the Fall/Winter Clinical symposiums that I think have been wildly successful.
