Videodermatoscopy has been demonstrated to have several potential and useful applications in dermatology including parasitoses, hair disorders, as well as other dermatoses, says Giuseppe Micali, M.D.
"Videodermatoscopy is a noninvasive technique that consists of in vivo skin observation by a video camera equipped with lenses that currently allow image magnification ranging from 4X to 1000X," says Dr. Micali, University of Catania, Italy.
This device enhances the monitoring of clinical response to treatment and allows optimal timing of drug application. This may be particularly important in minimizing risk of overtreatment, reducing the potential for side effects, and enhancing patient compliance.
