Technology monitors skin changes

MoleMapCD technology from DigitalDerm allows patients and doctors to monitor potentially deadly changes in the skin with accuracy and objectivity, the company says.

As melanoma figures rise - with over 60,000 new cases estimated in 2005, according to the American Cancer Society - the company says its CD-ROM-based technology helps doctors to stay on top of diagnoses by creating a medical record employing total body photography to create a precise and comprehensive map of a patient's skin surface.

The "map" that the technology creates can be used as a basis of comparison for troubling moles that can indicate the presence of melanoma.
