Study Examines Microbotox on Pore Size

Author(s):

Clinical data demonstrates the safety and efficacy of a single microbotox treatment for reducing facial pore size.

Microbotox treatment includes injecting diluted onabotulinum toxin A in microdroplets into the upper dermis. These injections are said to improve skin texture and quality, including smoothing away fine lines, improving hydration, and visibly reducing the size of skin pores.

However, to date, little research has been done to measure these effects. That’s according to authors of a recent study, “Microbotox for the treatment of wide facial pores: A promising therapeutic approach,” which appears online in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology.

In the study, researchers examined the safety and efficacy of microbotox to treat large pores on the face of 35 patients. Two blinded dermatologists measured pore size on a scale of 0-4 and results were also measured by dermoscopy to confirm. Satisfaction with microbotox treatment was measured from 0-5 using the Likert satisfaction scale, and patients were followed up for one year.

Researchers found an average 87.2% improvement after one microbotox treatment. Average pore size improvement was 3.7 (out of 4) and patient satisfaction was 4.7 (out of 5). No serious side effects were observed.

Based on results, the study authors conclude that safe and effective results are possible with one microbotox treatment to reduce pore size on the face. Notably, researchers also observed skin texture improvement and a reduction in oily skin tone.
