Skin Cancer GALA raises $1 million

New York - The Skin Cancer Foundation raised more than $1 million at its annual Skin Sense Award Gala in October.

"The evening exceeded our expectations," says event chairwoman Patricia Wexler, M.D., in a prepared statement. "It is wonderful to have such highly regarded industry leaders and celebrities supporting skin cancer awareness."

The event honored Sarah Brown, beauty director for Vogue magazine, and Neil Fiske, CEO of Bath & Body Works. Each year, the foundation recognizes those who have played a pivotal role in educating the public about the importance of sun protection.

The gala was attended by leading dermatologists and more than 500 leaders in the beauty, cosmetic, fragrance, skincare, fashion, retail and publishing industries who support the foundation's mission of increasing public and professional awareness about the prevention, detection and treatment of skin cancer. All proceeds will fund the foundation's national public education campaign.
