New York

- The Skin Cancer Foundation is urging citizens to write to their congressional representatives to request $10 million for melanoma research, according to the foundation.

Those interested should visit www.skincancer.org to send e-mail letters before Friday, April 3, in order for the request to be added to the Defense Appropriations Bill. The goal of the foundation is to have at least 5,000 letters sent by that date.

The Skin Cancer Foundation, along with the National Council on Skin Cancer Prevention, was able to secure $4 million for melanoma research last year, according to a press release. Typically, funding for such research is low.
