New York

- The Skin Cancer Foundation is now accepting applications for its annual awards to support pilot research projects related to skin cancer.

The foundation will award four $10,000 grants for basic research and clinical studies that address improved methods of prevention, detection and treatment of skin cancer.

Researchers are invited to submit applications for one-year projects to be conducted at medical institutions within the United States.

"These grants are meant to serve as seed money for research projects, which may be conducted on a small scale in the early stages of investigation," says Jean-Claude Bystryn, M.D., chairman of the foundation’s Research Grants Committee.

Submission deadline is Oct. 1. Applications will be reviewed by the Research Grants Committee, and recipients will be notified by Oct. 31.

The awards will be given at the foundation’s Grant Awards Reception scheduled March 8, 2009, during the annual meeting of the American Academy of Dermatology in San Francisco, Calif.
