POLL: Have You Heard of the New AAD Acne Guidelines?

In late January, the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD)’s Acne Guideline Workgroup, comprising dermatologists and specialists, announced the development of evidence-based recommendations and good practice statements for acne vulgaris.¹

The new guidelines for managing acne vulgaris, published in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, offer updates to the 2016 guidelines.²

Strong recommendations endorse topical benzoyl peroxide, retinoids, antibiotics, and oral doxycycline for acne treatment. Oral isotretinoin is strongly recommended for severe cases.

Conditional recommendations cover various topical and oral treatments, emphasizing the balance of benefits, risks, and burden.

Good clinical practices include combining therapies for enhanced efficacy and limiting systemic antibiotic use. Insufficient evidence exists for certain procedures and alternative therapies.
