In an interview with Dermatology Times®, Ted Lain, MD, MBA, chief medical officer of Sanova Dermatology in Austin, Texas, discusses personal care products for the treatment of medical skin issues in his co-authored session, “What You Need to Know About Personal Care Products” with Patricia Farris, MD.

Transcript:

I am Dr. Ted Lain. I'm the chief medical officer of Sanova Dermatology and also direct the Science of Skin Care Summit. I'm talking, along with Dr. Patty Farirs, about personal care products. My part of the talk is really focused on personal care products in conjunction with RX or in replacement of RX to treat medical skin issues such as rosacea, atopic dermatitis, maybe even psoriasis. We're going to focus on the fact that all of those conditions really have three fundamental issues going on. One is inflammation, the other one is dysbiosis. And then the third is barrier repair, we have to repair the barrier in all of the inflammatory skin diseases that we talk about. One that I forgot to talk about is acne actually, and that's a huge one. So I just go through a lot of the different skin care, papers, and publications to show the efficacy of the OTC, both ingredients and formulations by themselves and in conjunction with RX to show an increased efficacy.
