East Lansing, Mich. - Researchers at Michigan State University say results of a study showing how nanoparticles can help prevent wrinkling and buckling in polymer films could also be applied to skin wrinkles.
According to Decision News Media, a study conducted at the university’s Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science involved using nanoparticles of 50 nm between the films to smooth out small buckles and wrinkles. The researchers say they believe the process could be applied as new cosmetic procedures for the human skin - and that it could be a new research area.
The researchers say they believe the technology might involve film “implants” in areas of the face prone to wrinkling. The implants could help to smooth out the skin and help avoid further wrinkling.
The study’s findings were published in the December 2006 edition of the American Chemical Society’s Nano Letters.
