The study found that using the multi-peptide eye serum twice a day resulted in improved elasticity and firmness.
The appearance of facial lines and wrinkles is a result of many factors, both intrinsic and extrinsic. Therefore, to effectively target signs of aging, anti-aging products need to address multiple issues. In their study, researchers focused on the effectiveness of a multi-peptide eye serum to reduce lines around the eye area.1
In the 28-day trial, 32 Asian women aged 20-45 years applied approximately 0.5 mL of the test serum to the eye area in the morning and evening. Skin biophysical parameters were assessed by the attending researcher the day before the trial began, at day 14, and again at day 28. To be included in the study the participants showed signs of wrinkles, fine lines, and crow’s feet at the outer corners of the eyes.
The serum was a commercially available product provided by UNILIPO company containing 10% Argireline (acetyl hexapeptide-8), 4% Matrixyl 3000 (palmitoyl tetrapeptide-7, palmitoyl tripeptide-1), and 2% Eyeliss (dipeptide-2, palmitoyl tetrapeptide-7, hesperidin methyl chalcone) as effective ingredients.
To determine biophysical parameters, a researcher assessed hydration of the stratum corneum, skin elasticity, and wrinkle analysis around the crow’s feet area. In addition, participants completed a satisfaction questionnaire at days 14 and 28.
On day 14, the number of wrinkles had decreased significantly (31.80%) and by day 28 had maintained the reduction (33.29%). At baseline mean wrinkle-length was 346.84 (±64.72) μm. By day 28 mean wrinkle-length had decreased to 284.19 (±51.82) μm, an 18.06% reduction.
Although no significant change in skin hydration or elasticity (at a definite point around the eye) was observed after 28 days of product use, hydration below the eye area improved 4.34% (p = 0.149). In measuring skin elasticity, R2 related to the overall elasticity or ability of recovery. F3/F4 represent skin fatigue and firmness of skin. After 28 days, R2 and F3/F4 measurements around the corner of the eye increased by 1.23% (p = 0.553) and 1.83% (p = 0.370), respectively.
Participant satisfaction was high with 75% stating overall satisfaction with the results after 28 days. Overall, the study found a statistically significant decrease in the number and depth of wrinkles.
