Korey Capozza, MPH, Talks About What is Happening at the RAD Conference

Korey Capozza, MPH, Executive Director of Global Parents for Eczema Research, shares what she is looking forward to at the Revolutionizing Atopic Dermatitis virtual conference.

Transcript (edited for clarity):
Hi there. I'm Korey Capozza, and I'm the parent of a child with moderate to severe eczema, and Executive Director of Global Parents for Eczema Research. And I'm really thrilled to be moderating a session at the at the upcoming Revolutionizing Atopic Dermatitis meeting on Sunday, December 11. Our session is going to be looking at the mental health impacts of eczema on both patients, pediatric and adult and their caregivers. And we're going to be focusing in on interventions to help. This is a field that's been emerging over time. And we've learned in the past couple years just how prominent impacts like anxiety and depression are for patients who experienced moderate to severe eczema. And we're at the point where we need to start thinking of how to help. And so this session is really going to tap the experts who have piloted interventions for addressing anxiety and depression in patients with eczema.

And we've got a great lineup. So we're going to kick things off with Dr. Katrina Abuabara from [University of California, San Francisco] UCSF, and she's going to be talking about the trajectory of mental health outcomes across the lifespan, looking at just how these different mental health impacts manifest from childhood to adulthood in patients with atopic dermatitis. And then we're going to hear from Dr. Jennifer LeBovidge, and Dr. Lynda Schneider from Boston Children's Hospital. They're going to be talking about their multidisciplinary model for addressing both the psychosocial impacts of eczema as well as the physical impacts of eczema. And then we've got a great presentation from Keri Kelley. She's with our organization and is the manager of a peer support program for eczema caregivers. And this is a really unique model that taps the expertise and the experiences and the empathy of other parents to help caregivers of children with moderate to severe eczema. And then finally, we're going to hear from Dr. Carolyn Jack. And she's going to talk about McGill University in Canada's innovative virtual psychologist led mental health support program for adults with atopic dermatitis, which she's piloting right now. So this is going to be an exciting session that will be relevant to both physicians, researchers, patients and caregivers. And I hope everyone leaves the session with good ideas for how to better serve patients. So we'll see you at RAD on Sunday.
