Rolling Meadows, Ill. - Lawrence Field, M.D., has donated $100,000 to the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS) to start the Lawrence Field, M.D., International Dermatologic Surgery Educational Exchange Fund.
Dr. Field is widely known in the dermatologic community for his extensive travels abroad to educate other surgeons and to be educated in dermatologic surgery. The fund will offer dermatologic surgeons an opportunity to travel abroad to both teach and learn.
The fund will support two programs designed to enhance the exchange of information about dermatologic surgery between the U.S. and overseas dermatologic communities.
One program, which will be administered by the ASDS in collaboration with the International Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ISDS), will enhance the existing ASDS Preceptorship Program, which enables fellows of the ASDS, third-year residents and physicians in fellowships to learn from experienced surgeons. The other program is basically a traveling mentorship/education exchange. It will be a fully collaborative effort between the ASDS and the ISDS to provide a format for American dermatologic surgeons to travel to other countries, and for international dermatologic surgeons to come to the United States, to perform procedures and exchange surgical techniques.
