The Dermatology Innovation Forum has announced its cancellation amid global spread of the coronavirus.
The Dermatology Innovation Forum (DIF) put on by Advancing Innovation in Dermatology (AID), is joining a long list of other scientific conferences in canceling their events due to the coronavirus (COVID-19).
“After monitoring developments relating to this communicable disease outbreak, requesting and receiving input from various stakeholders, analyses, and deliberations, we have determined that the prudent course of action at this time is to cancel the 2020 Dermatology Innovation Forum (DIF)…,” according to a press release from the DIF Board of Directors.
The cancellation announcement was made on March 10 following the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) informing registrants and presenters of their annual meeting’s cancellation the previous day, both events were set to take place in Denver, CO.
“There are many unknowns about COVID-19, and our objective in canceling the DIF is to mitigate the risk of increasing exposure to the virus through a conference setting to attendees and to those present for other reasons, such as those working at the meeting,” write the Board of Directors.
Prior to official cancellation, DIF cites numerous attendees, speakers and session chairs notifying the event of their newly restricted travel policies put in place by various businesses and institutions due to the outbreak, thus impacting attendance.
AID is offering registrants full refunds, a ticket to a future DIF event or the option to donate registration fees to the nonprofit organization due to the financial impact the cancellation poses.
At time of publication, The Dermatology Nurses’ Association (DNA) meeting is still being held in Denver despite cancellations from DIF and AAD.
