Celebrating Dermatologists: EltaMD Establishes March 13th as First Annual Observation of National Dermatologist Day

EltaMD Skin Care, a leading dermatologist-recommended sunscreen brand in the US, has today announced the establishment of the first annual National Dermatologist Day, a day dedicated to honoring the vital contributions of dermatologists in promoting skin health and combating skin cancer.¹

Now planned to be recognized annually on March 13, the initiative aims to recognize the expertise and dedication of dermatologists who play a pivotal role in early skin cancer detection and public education on sun safety.

EltaMD has previously supported various educational dermatology-related initiatives such as The Sun Bus, a mobile skin cancer screening program, and American Academy of Dermatology (AAD)'s SPOT Skin Cancer program. Additionally, EltaMD was the official sunscreen sponsor of AAD's Skin Cancer, Take a Hike! event.

To commemorate National Dermatologist Day, EltaMD plans to collaborate with renowned board-certified dermatologists, Mona Gohara, MD, FAAD; Muneeb Shah, MD, FAAD; Sheila Farhang, MD, FAAD; Laura Scott, MD, FAAD; and Claire Wolinsky, MD, FAAD. This collaboration will involve the sharing of insights on the significance of dermatologist visits and offer skin care tips via social media platforms.

Dermatologists, as board-certified medical professionals, undergo extensive training to diagnose and treat over 3,000 skin, hair, and nail conditions, EltaMD said.

They detect millions of skin cancers annually, emphasizing the importance of regular skin checks for early detection and improved survival rates, especially for melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer. By advocating for regular sunscreen application, dermatologists contribute to reducing the risk of developing skin cancer by approximately 40%.¹
