Cannabinoid products may alter effects of prescription drugs

Researchers have identified and developed lists of medications that may not function properly due to concomitant cannabinoid use in an effort to help medical professionals prescribe prescription drugs safely to their patients.

A recently published study conducted by the Penn State College of Medicine discovered cannabinoid products may have the ability to affect some pharmaceuticals.

First reported by Pharmacy Times, the study provides a list of 57 prescription drugs that have been found to not function properly due to concomitant cannabinoid use. An additional list of 139 identified medications have been discovered to potentially have a drug-drug interaction with cannabinoids.

Researchers developed these lists in hopes of aiding medical professionals in prescribing medications safely if their patients use prescription, over the counter (OTC) or cannabinoid-containing products.
