ASDS warns about procedures performed by improperly trained practitioners

Rolling Meadows, Ill. - The American Society of Dermatological Surgery (ASDS) has issued a statement warning patients that undergoing cosmetic surgery by untrained non-physicians is risky and can lead to serious injury and even death.

According to the Rolling Meadows-based ASDS, 41 percent of its members have seen an increase in patients seeking treatments to repair damage resulting from botched procedures performed by improperly trained individuals.

The ASDS statement also warns consumers not to use physicians who aren’t specifically trained in performing certain procedures. General practitioners and gynecologists are offering these cosmetic-surgery services more often, says the ASDS, which could potentially expose them to medical-malpractice lawsuits.
