All about CSF 2019

Cosmetic Surgery Forum (CSF) Founder Joel Schlessinger, M.D., Omaha, Neb., sits down with Dermatology Times to give an inside glimpse into the meeting's 11^th year. He talks about some of his favortie presentations including a session on the transitioning patient given by Doris Day, M.D.

“We had a great discussion about transgender patients and what we're doing for them because a lot of times, we're stumped when it comes to a patient that might have a particular problem that is new,” he says.

Dr. Schlessinger also pointed out another presentation given by Matthew Zirwas, M.D., surrounding parabens and their extraction from products, to which Dr. Zirwas notes parabens are the most effective and safest preservatives available. 

“The problem is that we're taking parabens out of products to please a public sentiment, but in reality, they're an extraordinarily useful tool, and nothing does it as well as parabens, so we had that great discussion,” adds Dr. Schlessinger. 

He also gave a presentation himself on the safety of sunscreen. 

“We got a chance to have people speak their opinion, decide whether they feel like we ought to approach sunscreens a little differently,” says Dr. Schlessinger. “But it was a great collegial discussion and one that I think helped people come to a different opinion in some cases or validate their own opinion. It was really exciting to see the room come alive for that.”
