Video: Differing definitions of atopic dermatitis

In this video, Dr. Lazzara discusses a study that examined operational definitions of atopic dermatitis in the literature, and their potential effect on prevalence and associated risk factors.

A study published in the British Journal of Dermatology looked at operational definitions of atopic dermatitis in the literature, and their potential effect on prevalence and associated risk factors.

Since no test can unequivocally confirm the diagnosis of atopic dermatitis the question arises how does different operational definitions used in the literature effect study outcomes.

The results of the study identified 59 different definitions across 45 studies, leading to the conclusion of the study that differing definitions of atopic dermatitis result in significant differences in predictive models, associated risk factors, and prevalence estimates.

How do you confirm the diagnosis of atopic dermatitis?
